Prefacing within a contemporary American classroom, Monuments asks you to question the history taught about the United States, to confront conventionally told colonialist narratives. Through an experimental lens of Afrosurrealism, we embark on a whimsically, brutal journey and are challenged to imagine the voices continuously silenced by said forced narratives.
WHAT/ WHEN/ WHERE?
On April 7th, 2019, Power of People Combined (POPC) is hosting a prom at Broken Shaker at Freehand New York.
DJ sets by Starchild and Vesa Beats, photo booths, and sweeping views of the city via the wrap-around terrace included. Food and drinks available for purchase at the bar.
We're throwing a extravagant party to have a good time, dress to the nines, and raise money for POPC’s newest project, Monuments. Monuments, written by Evan Starling-Davis in collaboration with POPC, was awarded the A.R.T./ NY Creative Space Grant for our workshop production of Monuments coming up on June 23, 2019. The proceeds from the POPC Prom will go towards paying all artists and collaborators involved with the June 23rd production. For more info on Monuments, check out the “Monuments” event page!
